This archive contains the XCR file for Ogres. Ogre mage graphics reworked
March 03/2010 This archive may be updated if any changes are needed to be made. This is not a stand alone
MOD as it requires the 1035 MOD for it to work.
South in the land of Kor is Gluk the stronghold of the Ogres. These large monsters live in the hills here and often battle alongside thier Orc
allies.They are not that smart but have great strength.
Ogres rely heavily on Stone and Metal but make use of Gold and Crystal to an extent.
Strengths
Ogre units are all big and have good hit points. Early game cheap scouting can be done with Giant Bats.Bassilisks can petrify enemys producing stone.
Cave Trolls and Trolls both regenerate hit points faster than most units and have an upgrade that
further increases the rate. Ogres are the only race in Warlords Battlecry III to have 2 General units available at Keep Level 5. The Rock Giant general
with the Over The Top upgrade has range unmatched by any non Siege unit in the game.Couple that with the fact Ogres produce sheep at the Steading in which
the Rock Giants and Trolls can throw. Ogre Mages have Wildfire spell which is very damaging to low hit point swarming attacks.
And of course the Ogre unit itself with it's thump upgrade and Drunkeness
upgrade make it the staple unit of the race.
Weeknesses
Like Orcs Ogres cannot repair thier buildings when damage is taken. And with no small units only the hero is able to garrison in the towers. Cave Trolls have
good damage but have little armour and die quite easily to missile attacks. Ogre Mage is a good spellcaster but is very pricey.
The best deffence is a good offence
Really this summons up the best strategy for playing Ogres. Starting off the bat building 2 Ogre Keeps. One for upgrading and one for mine stuffing. After
your keeps are built building a couple Troll Caves. One producing bats to scout out the map for more mines. Cave Trolls can give you a good early game presence
but are not strong enough to mass and take out your enemy base on thier own. Once you get your Keep to level 2 switch quickly from Cave Trolls to Bassilisks and
maybe add another Troll Cave and have it pumping out more Bassies. Really after this point it is up to you the choice you which to take. If your Bassilisks are
able to petrify enough enemies and your hero was able to convert enough mines you should have the resources to punish your enemy with Ogres and Trolls. The later
gets the Regeneration upgrade at the Giant Inn which gives them a +4 hit point regenerate making them tough to kill to begin with and armed with sheep tagged with
drunken Ogres make a double barrel threat.
Good Hero Class?
Hordemaster without a doubt has Horde skill which upgrades your army limit plus Ogre King which gives your Ogres an XP upgrade.
What to do about that good offence
When facing the Ogres your stragedy should be the same as theirs. You will have to strike early and often. Don't feed the Bassilisks with any low hit point
gimme kills and go after their buildings. Ogre AI won't use sheep but they will mass Ogres along with Cave Trolls giving them very strong upfront attack. Giving
Ogre AI total map control and turtleing is basically a death sentence. But if you take enough mines and prevent stone and metal mines in particular falling into
the Ogres hands you will fare better.
