I put this page up to answer a few questions about the MOD about how to install and how to use some of the features like the custom portrait slots.
IS THE MOD A STAND ALONE GAME MOD?
The 1035 MOD is designed to run alongside your regular version of Warlords Battlecry 3. Whether you are using the original 1.00 version or the more updated
1.03 version or even the Unofficial 1.032 versions of the game. That being said if you don't own a copy of the game you will not be able to play the MOD.
HOW DO I INSTALL THE MOD?
The MOD is simply a ZIP format archive it is not an executional file. You must extract the contents of the archive to the C:\Program Files\Enlight\ Infinite
Interactive\ Warlords Battlecry III Folder. By extracting the executional into the incorrect directory a .dll error will occur when the Battlecry1035.exe are selected.
This is because all the games required .dll files to run are in the main directory.
CAN I USE MY OLD HEROS FROM MY OL VERSION OF THE GAME?
No. The hero data is just too different and everything related to heros is carved in stone in Warlords Battlecry 3. The MOD has additional races, classes, skills, portait slots and hero avators
that the original doesn't have. So even something as simple as adding one new avator totally changes the data. The MOD creates a new HeroData35.xcr file in your My Documents/WarlordsBattlecry III folder.
THOSE NEW HERO PORTRAIT SLOTS HOW DO THEY WORK?
They work very simply. Say you want to create your own hero portrait for any race. You create a BMP file 98X98 pixels wide. The BMP MUST be saved as a 8-bit Channel depth.
If it is saved as say 24 BIT the portrait will not work it will appear as a black blank portrait. The next step you need an XCR editor and I use the ol XcrPlus program that been around forever.
I Select the custom portrait slot I wish to replace with a new portrait. I click Replace then I select the new portrait then I click save. I load the game up and see if it works.
To help here's a picture walkthru I done with someone on the Battlecfield Forums.
1. CHOSE 98X98 bmp file and saved as 8 bit format:
2. Open Portraits.XCR file using XcrPlus and scroll down and click replace the portrait slot you want:
3. Click Save :
4. Load up the game and see if the new portrait works :
WILL THE MOD WORK WITH MY FORIEGN LANGUAGE VERSION OF THE GAME?
The mod was built using the English language version of the game. When tested alongside the German version a voice pack message appears. It is my hope to have some foriegn language versions at some point. Currently working on a German Beta. Once that version runs successfully perhaps other version could be made demand permiting.
I INSTALLED A NEWWER VERSION OF THE MOD AND THE GAME CRASHES WHEN IT NEVER USED TO?
With extensive battletesting there is only 2 crashes that are consistant with this mod. The Customize Hero section will cause a crash if you enter and renter it over again some of the time. On maps using the regular executional with Boats and more than 1 high level AI opponent the game will crash when there are too many land locked troops stuck in the waiting mode.
If you are experiencing crashes other than this though it is likely caused by a few things.
-Keeping renamed backed up XCRS of the new sides in the Assets/Sides folder (example old Ogres.xcr renamed Ogressomething.xcr) this causes a crash because the game will still read this XCR even though it doesn't have the accompanied .en file.
-Have not renewwed your HeroData35.XCR in the MyDocuments/Warlords Battlecry folder. When I made an update after November 17/2009 I added another Knight avatar and gave the Empire one as an option for the Dragon Race. If you download an updated mod and not delete your old Herodata35.xcr file the game will crash when you go to use old heros. The hero data is all changed even adding just an avatar to it that is why.
-You attempt to alter stats on new side packs. I encrpted all these files so any attempt to alter stats will result in crashes.
When you download the main archive take note of the date the executional. Often on forums I may mention a fix for a crash back 3 months ago so downloading an older executional isn't going to do any good. If the game crashes just simple clean all contents of the mod(including the HeroData35.xcr file from the game and get the latest version and start over.
